The First Visit
We would ask you to arrive for registration 20 minutes (30 min if semen assessment is necessary) prior to your appointment with the doctor. You will be given a form to complete with your details and the name and address of your GP and your Referrer. Please return this form to the receptionist who will register you.
What to expect from your first consultation
On your first visit to our Centre you will be seen by one of our specialist fertility fellows who will conduct a thorough assessment of your fertility. All aspects of your treatment cycle will be discussed with you and this is also the time for you to raise any concerns or issues that you may have with the doctor. This initial consultation lasts approximately 1/2 - 2 hours.
Consultation with the doctor
Your doctor will take a full and comprehensive medical history of both partners if applicable. You will be asked to undergo a physical examination including a breast and gynaecological examination. If for any reason you do not wish to have the examination at this stage, please inform your doctor. A nurse will be present at the time of examination to assist the doctor. All ultrasound scan and semen analysis may also be performed at your first visit if necessary.
The ultrasound findings and the result of the semen analysis will be ready towards the end of the consultation. The doctor will explain the findings and together you will discuss the different options available regarding your future fertility treatment. Further diagnostic tests such as x-rays, laparoscopy & hysteroscopy and blood tests may be necessary.
How can you prepare yourself for your visit?
Please bring the following if applicable:
1- A history of your fertility (summary of any previous treatments)
2- Blood test results
3- Semen analysis results
Reports of previous examinations such as x-rays and any operations that you may have had.
If you have undergone fertility treatment somewhere else you are entitled to write to the clinic and ask for a report with your treatment details.
